THE PERMANENT SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE 2006-2007

The PSC is handling all scientific affairs related to scientific congresses and meetings organised by the European Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy. Their primary responsibility lies with reviewing and selection of submitted material for presentation.

Mini biography on the PSC Chair

Name:Ton A.R. Schreuders
Nationality: Dutch
Education: In 1981 he received his diploma from School for Physiotherapy (SUPA) Utrecht
Work experience as PT:
His first job as a Physiotherapist was at a Practice for Physiotherapy (Gouda and Stolwijk) at which he worked from 1982- 1984. In 1985 he and his wife Hilde joined The Leprosy Mission International (TLMI) and worked in Thailand at the McKean Rehabilitation Center in Chiangmai. He was Head of the Physiotherapy Department from 1986 -1992. During this time he also lectured at School for Physio- and Occupational Therapy in Chiangmai Thailand. After returning to the Netherlands in 1992 he worked in Alkmaar for one year. He also worked as a consultant for TLMI and the Netherlands’ Leprosy Relief. From 1994 onwards he worked at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam as a hand therapist. With a fund from the Revolving Fund a research project was started in 1999. He received his PhD on 24th November 2004 at the Erasmus University.
At present:
He received a post-doc grant in 2005 from the Erasmus MC to study the effect of Mirror Therapy in patients with peripheral nerve damage and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).
Assignments:
He has had several functions within the Dutch hand therapy society (Nederlands Gezelschap voor Hand Therapie) and has been co-ordinating a hand therapy course since 2000.
